I think that most fans of the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast would agree that Gaston is one of the best things about it. He's the kind of character that you love to hate. Have any of you seen the storyboard sequence for the original opening of the movie? Originally, the movie wasn't going to be a musical and was going to stick more closely to the fairytale, complete with much more French culture flourishes. The most amazing thing about the sequence was the entirely different take on Gaston. He was a viscount and was, in the words of the O.G. a complete fop, complete with frilly shirts and a powdered wig.

This gave me an idea for a drawing challenge that I thought would be fun for the group.

Design your own Gaston!

Your Gaston can be from any time period or culture and doesn't have the same personality as the disney character. Simply imagine your own challenger for the Beast in your own retelling of the fairytale. You can picture him alone or with other members of your cast like your Beast or your Beauty. Please include a description of your character and his back story in the description. Let me know how he fits in to your story!

The deadline for the challenge will be May 1st. If you are interested in taking part in the challenge, please send me a quick message so I'll know how many submissions to expect.

The winner of the challenge will receive a free art request from me over the summer.

Have fun guys! :D
So this may sound like a random thing, but I thought we could discuss the movie "Beastly" since it's based on beauty and the beast.

I was wondering what you guys are thinking about it, judging my the trailers.

I have read the book that the movie is based on and I am not at all happy with what they decided to do with the movie. I remember Kyle describing himself as being hairy like a wookie and in the movie version he's just bald with what looks like tatoos all over him. And he calls himself a beast? Huh? What's beastly about being bald and having tatoos? If that's what a beast is, then there's a lot of them hanging around the local biker joints.

And why is he giving a speech on being good looking in the trailer? That's...STUPID!

Then there's the witch, who is supposed to be ugly, if I'm not mistaken. If that is ugly then I'm never stepping out of my house again.

Finally there's beauty herself (I can't remember her name!) She's very pretty, not plain at all. She's got perfect teeth and everything. (She had braces in the book)

The actresses I can forgive, but beast...come on! Hollywood's not even trying to stay with the book.

I think that this is just another example of hollywood taking someing that I love and ripping it to shreads until it's barely recognizable. It's a shame. It was a beautiful and creative take on the story and hollywood has just butchered it. I don't know...I may be wrong and it could  actually be a good movie. I'll have to watch it to know. I'll deffinately be writing a review on here at some point, preferrebly after it's come out on DVD. I AM NOT PAYING TO WATCH THIS IN THEATERS!

I'm still going to give it a chance and look at it objectively. I did see some things in the trailer that I liked. If they stay with the book with the rest of the movie (I highly doubt they will) It'll be a decent flick, but I've learned from experience that if it looks like crap it probably is. Two words...Dragonball Evolution. I watched my childhood die that day.

So let me know your thoughts. Have any of you read the book, "Beastly"? Rant all you like. I'd love to hear what you have to say!
Hello everyone! Welcome to Enchanted Mirror!

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I have a bit of any obsession with the classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast. The Disney version is what really got me interested in art and animation in general.

Finally, I've decided to create my own group , dedicated to the fairytale.

In this group, members are free to share their own beauty and the beast related artwork and literature or suggest some of your favorites. I will have several pieces of my own in the gallery. Comics are also welcome.

There will be a number of contests, so please try to get involved with those.

Disney as well as original takes on the fairytale are allowed. As long as it's beauty and the beast related, anything goes.

Have fun!
